The ideation process for our team was for the most part seamless. We had chosen three HMW statements to examine in the process and start brainstorming possible solutions/ways to ameliorate the problem, and we were bouncing ideas off each other left and right.
The three we decided on were “HMW reduce waste on flights?”, “HMW make flying on southwest a more tangible experience?”, and “HMW make customers feel more invested in Southwest’s sustainability platforms?”
The first one we tried to tackle was ways to reduce waste on flights. This one seemed to be the most straight forward at first, but after going through all three, it was the most difficult. The ideation process, in general, was well thought out, and we had minimal group discussion which allowed us to really just throw out ideas. My favorite part was brainstorming crazy unrealistic ideas because often times those ideas were just one step too far, and could be modified into something that we might not have even thought about before.
The other two HMW statements were easier, and after completing the ideation process, we had a pretty good idea of what we want to do and can incorporate more than one HMW statement in creative ways.
The top three things I learned:
- work gets done faster, and more ideas are generated in group work.
- every person has a different way of thinking, and every person has different ideas, and that is why brainstorming as a group without discussion is important.
- thinking of unique products/services is daunting!!
I am really excited to work on the design/protype feature of this project becuase my brain works visually and hands on, and I love design.
